S Family: Beautiful Fall Colors

When we first moved to Langley during our Teaching degrees, little did I know that I would get a dream job at a great school with great staff. I get to work so closely with all of the resource staff at LSS and, Nicole Salmon and her sister, Monique, were some of the first colleagues I met and connected with at this school. Monique has since moved on to a different school but, over the last 6 years, I have been able to get to know Nicole better, both at school and outside of school.

I was so honored, when she asked me to take some portraits of her and her girls this fall and the weather on this particular morning was incredibly co-operative. Perfectly cloudy with hints of morning sunshine and three lovely ladies with such fun interactions. I thoroughly enjoyed my morning with you ladies and hope you enjoy the final product!

Gorgeous girls!

These two girls are not only beautiful but, they had so much fun and it showed!

I love the one on the right - candid moments are some of my favorites :)

Sisters :)

Nicole was hesitant to get in the photos but, I think you can agree, that she is far more photogenic than she gives herself credit for and I'm so glad I was able to capture some of her with her girls. They all have such gorgeous smiles!

We found a beautiful spot in the trees with some beautiful light and spent a good deal of time there :) I love this sequence and the interactions between sisters. I may have two boys but I can only imagine the sorts of moments I'll be capturing in 10 or so years. Watching these two made me look forward to it :)

I asked the girls to squat down for a few shots and it proved to be far more challenging that I expected and took a few tries but they got it and then their mom showed them up by making it look easy :)

A few shots of Nicole on her own. Pretty photogenic, eh?

The girls were still full of crazy creative ideas so, as we headed back to our cars, I snapped a few more :0

Nicole, thank you for introducing me to your two girls and for being such a great friend to me at LSS all of these years. You have such a passion for the students you work with and, I have seen you go above and beyond for them time and time again. I saw glimpses of a deeper version of that passion as I watched you interact with your daughters and, it is so evident that they love and respect you so much.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and thank you again for allowing me to be a part of capturing your family at this stage of life. Many blessings to you and your beautiful girls!

Miss.Maria: Family Session

Sandy and Brita are a part of our 'second family,' as I like to think of it - which includes a core group of friends we met at SFU and have stayed in close contact with over the past 10+ years. It has been so fun watching them become a family of three over the past year and their beautiful little girl, Maria, has such an amazing personality already. I had so much fun capturing her expressions and we treasure this whole family so much that time slipped by and, before I knew it, we had a ton of shots. Enjoy!

Love this one :)

The bottom photo makes me smile because it reminds me of one of the things I love about this family - they are 'real' and we can be real with one another. That bottom photo is 'real' life as a parent :)

Pretty sure Maria's laugh is right up there as one of my faves!

What a beautiful girl!

Love these ones of Brita and Maria!

Maria was really into the ducks which worked in our favor :)

Sandy and Brita, I hope you enjoy these photos and that they would make frequent reminders of the amazing blessing you have as parents of this gorgeous little girl. It's not like there was any doubt that you'd make amazing parents but, let me say that I can see both of your best qualities in the way you interact with Maria and show her love. You balance each other out so nicely and we so enjoy sharing in the ups and downs of parenting with you both.

Lots of love and blessings in Maria's second year of life for your little family!

Lung Family of 3 (Derby Reach Heritage Site)

A number of years ago we started attending Jericho Ridge Community Church in Langley and have met some awesome families in our time there. There is especially a great community of women at this church and, this time around on mat leave, I've been able to join some other mothers in the Friday morning gathering on the 'time starved marriage.' I met Kara through this group and through the mass baby showers every 6 months that Jericho Ridge is so awesome about organizing and was so excited to have an opportunity to photograph their family before the arrival of a little brother or sister for Jonas!

We headed to Derby Reach Heritage Site - a first for me - and I was so pleased with the venue. Beyond the awesome scenery it was an absolutely perfect day for photos considering the forecast was for rain all day. As I waited there for the Lungs' to arrive I couldn't help but praise God for the beautiful place we live and for granting me just the right amount of picture perfect cloud cover!

Here are a few of this gorgeous family!

I love the bottom photo and think it will be particularly special if Kara ends up having a girl :)

With Jonas turning 2 on Friday, I couldn't believe what an awesome listener he was the entire time! Way to go little guy :)

Being a mom of a 2 1/2 year old myself, I'm learning to come armed with some toys to help 'encourage' participation amongst the little ones and the Thomas the train worked fantastically for Jonas!

Kara looks just gorgeous, especially for someone who is only weeks away from giving birth!

Such a beautiful family!

Even though there were plenty of backdrops at the Heritage Site, we headed across the street to get a few pics overlooking the water and, again, I was so amazed by this beautiful spot and, on a cloudy Wednesday afternoon we had it mostly to ourselves. I love the way that Howard and Kara are looking at each other in the bottom right photo. Such a loving couple!

And Jonas was still happily co-operating - kind of a dream kid from a photographers' stand point.

We were trying to get Jonas to kiss Kara's belly but he wasn't into it. When I suggested that he and Kara both show their bellies, he started to perk up :)

Quick wardrobe change in honor of our Stanley Cup finalists and there were just too many to share here so I had to share a handful!

Kara had mentioned that she had some photos taken when she was pregnant with Jonas like the ones below so we decided to recreate it. I can totally empathize with other moms who are trying not to shaft the second child simply because they're the second child :)

With the end of the photoshoot in sight, we decided to get a few final ones of Jonas and his mommy before he has to share her with another little one and the end product was adorable.

The love this family has for one another is so evident in their interactions and you can see it in every photo. Jonas was such a great sport, Howard, you had such an awesome attitude throughout the whole session and, Kara, I can't say enough how amazing you look!

Thank you guys so much for letting me get to know your family a little more through this experience. I am really looking forward to the arrival of your little one (though probably not as much as you're looking forward to not being pregnant, Kara :) ) and getting to know your family better in the years to come.

Oct.18, 2009: Follett Family

I have the pleasure of working with Mark Follett at Langley Secondary and it was fantastic to be able to photography their adorable little family. Greyson was in a pretty great mood and we got lots of smiles by the end of the day. They live in such a beautiful area of Fort Langley and I was happy to hang out with them for an hour or so.

Here are some of the best
